It was a cold Friday afternoon in February and I was headed to the Catskills for a client meeting. I hadn’t been in this area for a long time, probably since I had been skiing many many years ago.
I learned how to ski at the tender age of two, yes two! My grandfather built us a rope-tow out of an old car engine in the backyard at Strawberry Hill Road. Every winter as a child, we would have skiing trips as an entire family: grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. My mother’s family actually taught my father how to ski, which is ironic because he is 100% the athlete in the family.
I was reflecting on all the winters we would have these fun family adventures while driving to Barryville NY to meet with new clients.
Charlee and Dan recently bought their second home in the area.
They live in New York City so this is their weekend getaway for both them and their kids; their place to spend quality time together in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
They also love having family and friends over for weekends and holidays. Pulling up to the front of the house, Dan was out on the front deck. He was excited that I was able to easily find their home, as this was a challenge for other visitors. He also made a comment as I locked my door that it was important to do so…it was more likely a bear would try to get into my car, not a burglar!
The house definitely had that old country charm, but it was outdated. It wasn’t functional and needed some work to revive all its beauty. In addition to renovating the kitchen and bathrooms, they needed help updating furniture throughout the house.

They wanted a mixture of shabby chic and rustic which, in the end, we were able to accomplish and then some.
“Ashley is a design genius. We would have never been able to accomplish what she has done to each room. Every time we are here I still can’t believe this is our home,” Charlee Weir says about her experience working together.
